Interestingly, the words “disciple” and "disciples" appear in the four Gospels and in the Book of Acts some 266 times. The words, however, are not found at all in the Epistles (the remaining books) of the New Testament. This is perhaps the best proof that the Bible intends for individuals to develop beyond the status of a “disciple” (and surely beyond the status of a “sheep”) and to rely upon their own honest "brains", “hearts”, and courage ever more for the purpose of building up their own competent “Priestly” authority. People are to learn to “see behind the curtains” of all that is around them, including what is "behind the curtains" of the church’s officials and “traditions” themselves!
